Tom Murphy

TAX STRATEGIST, MURPHY TAX STRATEGIES

Tom Murphy brings a rare combination to cost segregation: he's worked construction finance from the field and the lender's desk, not just the tax side. Early in his career he handled forward planning and land acquisitions for Fieldstone Homes and evaluated construction loan risk as a construction loan analyst for Norwest Banks — experience that gives him a practical read on how a building actually gets built and financed, not just how it depreciates.

That construction background carried into a long career in mortgage lending, including senior loan officer roles with HomeServices Lending and Movement Mortgage, where he was consistently ranked among the top originators nationally and recognized for customer satisfaction. He also founded a CRM startup built specifically for real estate sales workflows, and has held a California real estate broker's license since 2001.

Most recently, Tom served as Vice President of National Sales and Marketing for Green Zip® drywall tape, leading a 200-person national sales force and working directly with developers and contractors on accelerated-depreciation drywall strategy — the same product he now brings to clients through Murphy Tax Strategies and TPTM. He is also a part-time accounting instructor at MiraCosta College, where he teaches QuickBooks and is a certified QuickBooks ProAdvisor.
